چکیده

We present sensitivity measurements of the EVLA at L-band between 1 and 2 GHz to assess the impact of the receivers with the new thermal gap assembly. Our on-the-sky test results are consistent with lab measurements, and show that the sensitivity improves by an average value of ∼7% in the frequency range 1–1.55 GHz, and degrades by an average value of ∼3% in the frequency range 1.55–2 GHz. The sensitivity improvement at the lower half of L-band will particularly be valuable for the study of various spectral line transitions that can be observed in this frequency range.

EVLA Memo #188 The Impact of the New Thermal Gap Receiver Assembly on the Sensitivity of the EVLA at C-Band (4–8GHz)

Sensitivity measurements of the EVLA at C-band (4–8GHz) are presented to assess the impact of the receivers with the new thermal gap assembly. The on-the-sky test results are consistent with lab measurements, and show sensitivity improvement across the full frequency range of the C-band receiver. The overall improvement in the sensitivity is ∼9.4%. In the frequency range 4–6GHz, the sensitivity...

EVLA Memo #152 Characterizing the Sensitivity of the EVLA at L-band

We present sensitivity measurements of the EVLA at L-band between 0.95 and 2 GHz. These are obtained using three EVLA antennas that are equipped with the final, EVLA-compliant L-band receivers. The reported SEFD values meet and/or exceed the EVLA sensitivity requirements over about 70% of the band, but are too high by 12–38% over the frequency range 1425–1750 MHz.

EVLA Memo #154 Characterization of the EVLA 1-2 GHz Intermediate Frequency Passband (Updated)

The EVLA 1-2 GHz Intermediate Frequency (IF), as presented to the 8-bit sampler, shows characteristic bandpass shapes that are independent of receiver band, upconverter path, or sideband. The implication is that the T304 baseband converter imprints its own characteristic response on the IF signal. This memo seeks to identify the causes of this characteristic shape, and to identify (where possib...

EVLA Memo 109 Wideband Performance of the EVLA L-Band System

The performance of the EVLA L-band feed/receiver across its full 1.0 – 2.0 GHz range is presented. The median efficiency across the band is near 45%, rising by about 4% near 1300 MHz and 2000 MHz, and dropping by a similar value near 1600 MHz. The efficiency drops quickly below 1100 MHz. The variation of focus position with frequency follows predicted values, and an optimum position for wide-ba...

EVLA Memo #168 Assessing the Impact of Using Three Cryogenic Compressors on the Performance of the EVLA

We present dewar temperature and system temperature measurements for the eight cryogenically cooled receivers of a subset of four EVLA antennas that have undergone a reconfiguration to use three cryogenic compressors instead of four. We compare the changes in the system temperatures in these antennas with those obtained from a subset of eight other EVLA antennas that have not undergone such a r...
